Wimbledon 2008 – Final

The match where everyone has kept their eyes, the match that everyone has been waiting to see and everyone want to see their favourite player in this match, that is Wimbledon Championship 2008 Final. This match is not so far because Play begins on June 23rd, leading up to quarter and semi-final showdowns...with the ultimate championship battle at the Wimbledon men's final on Sunday on July 6, 2008.


In Wimbledon Championship 2007, the Gentlemen's final was won by Roger Federer for the fifth consecutive time, a feat only before achieved in the Open Era by Bjorn Borg. It was the third longest men's singles final of all time at 3 hours and 45 minutes. Venus Williams claimed the Ladies' Title by defeating Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli. surprise finalist who had defeated world number one at the time Justine Henin.

What’s new for Wimbledon Championship 2008?

The All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club plans to implement several changes at the 2008 Wimbledon Championships.
Increased prize money, boosted security measures, and revisions to the queue lines are among the innovations announced on Tuesday.

Increased Prize Money

The Men’s and Ladies’ Singles Champions at Wimbledon will each receive £750,000, an increase of 7.1% over 2007 (£700,000).
The total prize money will increase by 4.7% to £11,812,000 from £11,282,710 in 2007, and the prize money for each of the Men’s and the Ladies’ Doubles events will exceed £1 million for the first time.

Hawk-Eye and Scoreboards

Wimbledon will introduce new digital scoreboards for both scores and Hawk-Eye on Centre Court and No.1 Court. The 3+1 Hawk-Eye Challenge system will again be used.

Scheduling

Wimbledon has stated that they are not considering plans to begin the tournament on the preceding Sunday and will only consider Middle Sunday play as an emergency option.

Travelling from Central London

In addition to regular public transport connections (see Wimbledon - Travel Tips) there are special bus services to and from the tennis championships run by the London General bus company. These buses link Central London, Southfields and Wimbledon stations direct to the Wimbledon tennis club. If you arrive at Wimbledon Station by public transport there are several possibilities of getting to the Wimbledon Tennis Club in Church Road.
Head for the forecourt of Wimbledon Station (main exit) where you will see signs leading you to special bus services run by London General. Marshals representing licensed taxi drivers (mornings only) are on hand to direct you to shared taxis, should you choose this option. The All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club (AELTC )

The Championships are run by a Committee consisting of 12 AELTC members and 7 nominees from the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA). Preparation for The Championships begins directly after the preceding meeting, implemented by seven full-time executives and their staff.Over 6,000 people attend The Championships in a working capacity. These include a temporary staff of several hundred, who are directly employed by The All England Lawn Tennis Club, and others who are provided by firms, contractors, voluntary bodies and public services, as well as representatives of the media. In short, during the Fortnight at the end of June and the beginning of July, the Club is a hive of activity, squarely in the eye of the sporting world.
